Bay Ridge has been recommended by posters as a diverse neighborhood that is extremely safe.  There is an express bus that takes 20 minutes to midtown or a subway, depending on the area of Bay Ridge that you choose.  Another poster said it takes 40 minutes to Wall Street.

Some posters have noted that Bay Ridge is too far out for a good commute to Manhattan.  Another says that is has a direction connection to Lower Manhattan and that it is a safe, family oriented community.  This is considered a better area if you have children.

Other:  The area of the neighborhood around Ovington Avenue (aka 70th Street) was once known as "Ovington Village"; it was ultimately swallowed up as Bay Ridge.
