I have not visited here yet, but there are some great videos in the pictures and videos link above.  Here are some comments from other posters:

2007:  I can't believe you'd say stay away from Greenpoint!!! Why--the oil spill?

Overall, Greenpoint is a lovely neighborhood reminiscent of European streets in some areas. Great parks, quick and easy city commute and cool and funky bars/restaurants all around. A ton of "hip" places popping up everywhere.

The big "con" that may be an issue is the Exxon oil spill from the '40s or '50s. It is underground in the NE area of Greenpoint. It could be an issue if purchasing property. That may be something to affect your decision!

2008:  yes it's safe and cute, lots of people around your age and there is a HUGE polish community.
lots of good kielbasa!

2008:  although you still have to be careful in the isolated areas...not to scare you off...I do know a few ppl who have been mugged in Greenpt but for the most part I'd say go for it.

2008: Greenpoint is a great neighborhood and pretty safe, of course depending which block you are on.  Avoid places closer to the water and near the intersection of Greenpoint Ave and McGuiness Blvd as it is very industrial in some of those areas.

2008:  I love living in Greenpoint. Moved here 2 years ago and LOVE it. Never had a problem. Biggest issue is the drunk polish guys that pass out on your stoop, but they're totally harmless.
