Park Slope                                                           Pictures & Video     Police Precinct #
Zip Code:  Brooklyn, NY 11215
Park Slope is roughly bounded by Prospect Park West to Fourth Avenue, Park Place to the Green-Wood Cemetery.

One poster noted that this neighborhood was a trendy walkable, stroller mom neighborhood that is very safe.  I have not visited here yet.  Noted by another poster that this is a very nice neighborhood where you will find nice brownstones.

Poster from 2007:  There have been reports of "roving teens" in Prospect Park after dark and like Central Park there is an area in the park known for gay men cruising. There was a daylight iPod robbery of a woman with her baby in a stroller last year that got a lot of attention. Some guy got robbed taking out the trash late one night. Not to be glib but these things apparently DO happen.

So in Brooklyn you tend to get spillover from bad neighborhoods into good, especially after dark. That isn't to say that it's dangerous but it does mean that there are opportunists out there and they move around in cars and on foot. You are more likely to see car thefts or break-ins in Brooklyn over Manhattan. It also depends where you are planning to be walking from and to. If you are talking about taking the subway from Manhattan to Brooklyn at 4 AM you might just want to take a cab - definitely if you are alone.

Another poster - 2007:  I lived in Park Slope for 15 years. The Slope is on the Western part of Prospect Park, along a hill (that's why it's called Park Slope!).

Park Slope is bigger, more family oriented and with three loooong commercial strips with a whole bunch of different shops! (5th, 7th and Flatbush Avenues!). The Northern tip of Park Slope is Atlantic Terminal/Atlantic Yards, a shopping mall and Brooklyn's main transit hub, 10-15 minutes to Manhattan.
