TriBeCa                                                                                   Pictures & Video     Police Precinct #16
TriBeCa stands for TRIangle BElow CAnal Street - it is located from Canal Street south to Park Place and the Hudson River east to Broadway. (Zip Code 10013)

Mom's Opinion?:  April 2009.  If you're from the West Coast, you'll probably like TriBeCa.  I lived in California for a while and that's what TriBeCa reminds me of.  Very trendy.  Very "private school."  Families with kids and strollers.  Let me rephrase. . . . families with money with kids with strollers.  Although just about everyone in Manhattan has money, it is even more clear in TriBeCa.  Very clean area.  Very concrete.  Seems funny to describe a part of the concrete city as concrete, but TriBeCa seemed even more concrete than the other parts of the city with the exception of cobblestoned streets.  I guess you could say it is quaint, but oddly it is new quaint.  Not really old enough to be truly quaint, but the parts that are old give the area a certain charm.  Very quiet area.  Too quiet for me.  Not so sure that 20 something's would enjoy it very much, but 30 something's definitely would.  I'll update more soon.  This was just my first impression.  Walking back uptown from TriBeCa was desolate.  I was walking up toward the West Village and it was a ghosttown.  In this area, I did not really feel that safe.  I think I would feel uneasy living in TriBeCa.  Others may like the privacy.

2008: Talked with a man on the train who lived in TriBeCa for a while.  He told me that in the evenings the area turns into a ghost town atmosphere because all the business activity leaves.  Its very quiet and isolated at night.  There are tons of lofts and the people who live there are middle aged professionals (no so many families).  He said he liked living there very much, but it is now too expensive for him.
